How long is a Professional Year valid for?

Hi everyone,

I finished my Professional Year on August 19, 2020, and I was invited to apply for a 189 visa on October 14, 2023.

At first, I thought my Professional Year was valid for 4 years from the date I graduated. But I've read in other places that the Professional Year is actually valid for 4 years from the date it started. This would mean it's only valid for 3 years from the graduation date.

Now I'm worried that if the Professional Year is only valid for 4 years from the start date, my 189 visa might be rejected because I accidentally claimed 5 extra points by mistake.

Does anyone have more information about how long a Professional Year is valid for and whether it's based on the start date or the graduation date? Should I cancel my 189 visa application?

Any help with this would be really appreciated.

Thank you and best regards, Hashim

To get the 5 points, at the time you were invited to apply for the visa, you must have completed...
a professional year in Australia in:
(a) the skilled occupation you nominated; or
(b) a closely related skilled occupation;
for a total of at least 12 months in the 48 months right before that time.
