The history of Mackay Airport

The airport was established in 1919, making it one of the oldest airports in Australia. It began as a grass airstrip for mail planes, and gradually expanded over the years to accommodate larger aircraft and more passenger traffic. During World War II, the airport was used as a military airfield by the Royal Australian Air Force.
